Purpose

The purpose of this photo was to make a portrait and show some different techniques and tools to retouch, manipulate and enhance the photo.

Techniques used

The clone stamp tool and the healing brush tool were used on a new layer to remove unwanted freckles, dots, impurities and shadows on the skin. The two layers were converted into a smart object and an unsharp mask filter was added. The smart object was duplicated and the unsharp mask substituted with a gaussian blur filter with a lowered opacity. This was done in order to make the skin look smoother. This filter was controlled by a layer mask, so that it is only visible on the skin and not on the eyes, hair, background etc.

A hue/saturation adjustment layer was added to change the color of the hair slightly. Due to a layer mask this color correction is only visible on the hair and not the whole photo. The same was done with a new adjustment layer to change the colors of the lips.

A new layer with 50% neutral grey and overlay blending mode was added and painted with black and white in order to lighten op shadows and the insides of the eyes and darken the eye lashes and brows. Finally the a curve adjustment layer was added to enhance the colors and make them more vivid.
